I was speaking with a friend on the phone today and he was telling me about a Facebook feud that is going on between two businesses in the same industry. It seems that a beef happened between the owners and how shall I say this politely, some online acrimony on Facebook started. Online smack talking went back and forth eventually involving even the customers of both businesses. The insults and counter insults between the owners and customers became epic and rather disturbing in a sadly comical way.
It seems that an entire social sub culture is evolving with Facebook and its users. People get angry if you don’t comment on their posts, they get angry if you unfriend them or refuse to accept them as friends. It is rather ridiculous how entirely absorbed people have become in this make believe cyber universe and its pretend and inane mores and customs.
I actually deactivated my Facebook account a couple of months ago for about two weeks because of some drama that I became involved in. During those two weeks I missed seeing pictures and posts that my family and friends were putting on Facebook, so I reactivated the account albeit minus some former Facebook friends. I figured I was not going to let a few cyber blowhards dictate the way I want to live my life.
I simply want to live my life in peace and not be involved in any drama in real life or in the pretend cyber world. It seems that in cyber space some people grow a huge set of balls and will say and post things they’d never say to your face, at least not to mine anyway.
It boggles my mind how singularly focused and bogged down some people are worrying about what others are saying, doing or yes even blogging about. Let me hip you into something dude…there is a big exciting world out there just waiting for you to experience it. Instead of involving yourself in the tedious machinations of cyber space, go out and enjoy the real world, a world of green trees, blue skies and some pretty interesting places and people.
For the love of God go hiking or bike riding or something….
